What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Most people define cosmetic dentistry as any procedure geared towards your smile’s appearance. Some reasons you might seek out a cosmetic dentist are:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Chipped or misshapen teeth
  • Gaps or other misalignments
  • Overlaps
  • Irregular tooth surfaces

However, the place to start is with good oral hygiene practices, both through regular dental visits and a commitment to home care. In addition, many cosmetic treatments are enhanced by routine maintenance. For example, professional cleaning removes any build-up that might interfere with the whitening agent before trying teeth whitening.

When your routine maintenance is complete, Dr. McCallum can offer you several procedures which improve both form and tooth color, with a focus on custom-made in-office restorations such as dental implants, porcelain crowns, veneers, and inlays.

CEREC Restorations: Superior Materials, Superior Design

Canyon View Dentistry’s advantage over other cosmetic dentists is our CEREC system, which allows us to create high-quality restorations in the office while you wait. Instead of sending your impressions to an outside lab which can take weeks, we use computer-aided design software to scan your teeth and a milling unit to fabricate your restoration with precision.

We also use only the best quality porcelain ceramic material when building your restoration instead of any composites. This is because we want your new smile to be as durable as bright and white.

Porcelain Dental Inlays, Crowns, and Veneers

Other porcelain repair options we create at our location are inlays, crowns, and veneers. Porcelain inlays are an attractive treatment used to replace damaged tooth structures. If your tooth has moderate surface damage, we may recommend an inlay.

But where your tooth has suffered severe damage or decay, a dental crown may be the best option as it caps the entire tooth instead of just a portion. Dental crowns are typical parts of root canal treatment and dental implant therapy. They look and work just like natural teeth.

A dental veneer is your best choice when your underlying tooth is sound, but the front-facing surfaces of it are irregular or discolored. Also constructed of porcelain, a veneer is thin and will fit seamlessly over your tooth’s enamel. We may recommend any combination of these restorations to create an overall effect on your entire smile.

Dental Implants Replace Teeth

Suppose a tooth is either missing or cannot support any other restoration. In that case, we may recommend a dental implant that an oral surgeon places. Dental implants have several health benefits because they are rooted in your jawbone to be as permanent as possible. After placement and a healing period, we utilize your dental implant to support several repair options, from single-tooth crowns to dental bridges and even implant-supported dentures.

5 STAR EXPERIENCE!

“5 STAR EXPERIENCE! I don’t know about you but I dread going to the dentist. I had two teeth that needed fixing but I have been dragging myself because I can’t deal with waiting for crown for at least a week. So today I went to my appointment to this new dentist and IT FELT LIKE I AM AT THE SPA! They had a blanket to cover my feet, a warm wet towel for my chest, back message from the chair, and netflix. The people are super nice and friendly – it start from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. I could stay there forever! They have super nice office you will really feel you are at the spa! I can’t wait be back to this SPA – yes it is a SPA to me for my next appointment for my crown. I did not have fear I usually get of seeing the dentist.” -Tisi

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Improving the appearance of stained or discolored teeth is one of the top requests we get here at Canyon View Dentistry. The type of stain will inform how we treat it to tackle your tooth color challenges.

Tooth Stains Types

With tooth discoloration, the origin and depth of the stain determine if it is extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains are confined to a tooth’s surface, often as a residue that contains the tint from particular food and drinks. You can lessen these stains with regular brushing and routine dental cleanings.

Conversely, intrinsic stains are more embedded in your tooth enamel. These happen when the acids common in many foods have created pockets in your tooth enamel. Over time, staining agents settle in these pockets, ever deeper into your enamel. Professional teeth whitening treatments are likely to be the only way to penetrate and uproot the stain-causing particles for these types of discoloration.

Certain Stains Require Restorations

In some cases, your tooth discoloration can be caused by antibiotic use and other medications which are impossible to correct with teeth whitening procedures. This limitation is because those stains are either below your tooth’s enamel or have changed the composition instead of resting on the tooth’s surface.

If this describes your tooth staining, then Dr. Cara McCallum may offer you several dental restorations that cover it entirely rather than removing the stain. In addition, we are happy to help you learn more about our cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers, bonding, and porcelain crowns, all of which we can fabricate in our office while you wait.

Call us today and discover how to solve your teeth stains regardless of how you got them.
