How can we help you?
We have discovered at Canyon View Dental that many oral health concerns are easier to address with information that you can access at any time. That’s why we invite our patients to ask about anything on their minds with our team as we discuss treatment options and recommendations.
This area is dedicated to answering some questions frequently asked by our patients. If you can’t find the answer to your question here, we encourage you to send us a message. And if you have an urgent concern, please call us, and we can help you immediately.

If you have dental insurance, most plans cover most if not all of your preventive teeth cleanings and checkups so you can protect your smile and your dental health.
We want to work with you to optimize your dental health. If you have any questions about your payment options, please call our office today.

Emergency Dental Services
We don’t want you to suffer any longer than absolutely necessary, but we will need some information to treat you effectively. We’ll first want to know the pain’s intensity, then its location and accompanying symptoms.
When it hurts, you may be suffering from:
- An abscessed tooth
- A fractured tooth or crown
- Sudden heat and or cold sensitivity
- Red, inflamed, and irritated gums
- Impacted wisdom teeth
If your problem is an abscessed or infected tooth, you should seek early treatment because infection by its very nature is known to spread and intensify. Likewise, when you’re suffering from a fractured tooth or dental crown, your nerve may be exposed and lead to intense pain, so you’ll want to seek urgent care.
We Can Treat You on the Same Day
The good news is that Dr. Cara McCallum can usually see emergency patients on the day that they call our Ken Caryl office. We want you to know that we understand how terrible dental pain can be, and our goal is to help you feel better on the spot.
Don’t hesitate to call us in case of any dental emergency.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Improving the appearance of stained or discolored teeth is one of the top requests we get here at Canyon View Dentistry. The type of stain will inform how we treat it to tackle your tooth color challenges.
Tooth Stains Types
With tooth discoloration, the origin and depth of the stain determine if it is extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains are confined to a tooth’s surface, often as a residue that contains the tint from particular food and drinks. You can lessen these stains with regular brushing and routine dental cleanings.
Conversely, intrinsic stains are more embedded in your tooth enamel. These happen when the acids common in many foods have created pockets in your tooth enamel. Over time, staining agents settle in these pockets, ever deeper into your enamel. Professional teeth whitening treatments are likely to be the only way to penetrate and uproot the stain-causing particles for these types of discoloration.
Certain Stains Require Restorations
In some cases, your tooth discoloration can be caused by antibiotic use and other medications which are impossible to correct with teeth whitening procedures. This limitation is because those stains are either below your tooth’s enamel or have changed the composition instead of resting on the tooth’s surface.
If this describes your tooth staining, then Dr. Cara McCallum may offer you several dental restorations that cover it entirely rather than removing the stain. In addition, we are happy to help you learn more about our cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers, bonding, and porcelain crowns, all of which we can fabricate in our office while you wait.
Call us today and discover how to solve your teeth stains regardless of how you got them.
Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are composed of porcelain or other composite materials, formed into thin shells made to order for your unique teeth. When applied, veneers create an immediate effect.
In some cases, your veneer may also lessen tooth sensitivity by covering a part of your tooth’s surface that might already be thin enough for you to feel discomfort from hot and cold substances.
Veneers are also resilient because the composite material is solid while still looking natural. But like any other tooth, veneers require daily care so that they remain clean and bright.
Care Instructions for Dental Veneers
With proper care, your veneers have excellent longevity. Dr. Cara McCallum recommends the following steps to maintain your veneers:
- Brush and floss twice a day
- Don’t grind your teeth
- Wear oral protection – especially for high-impact physical activities; we recommend a mouthguard.
- Wear a mouthguard at night if you grind your teeth
- Avoid biting directly into hard or sticky foods – we recommend not chewing ice, hard candy, and other sticky foods.

Laser dentistry uses focused light energy to treat tissues in a highly precise and minimally invasive way. In dentistry, lasers can target soft tissue, disinfect periodontal pockets, reduce inflammation, stimulate healing, and treat painful oral lesions.
At Canyon View Dentistry, we use the Picasso diode laser, which is ideal for:
-
Periodontal therapy
-
Bacterial reduction
-
Treating cold sores and canker sores
-
Soft-tissue reshaping / gingivectomy
-
Frenectomies
-
Aphthous ulcer therapy
-
Tissue decontamination before restorative treatment
While some offices use high-energy lasers capable of cutting hard tissues or removing crowns, those devices come at a significantly higher investment and are more often used in specialty environments. Our diode laser technology is purpose-built for soft-tissue comfort, healing, pain relief, and periodontal benefits, which aligns perfectly with the everyday needs of our patients.
